Mini India a project approved by the
Investment Promotion Board has allegedly land filled marshy areas in
Quelossim. Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha stated that biodiversity has been
destroyed in the process of beautifying the area. She said that the area
should be maintained for natural processes as it is a breeding ground for
estuarine fishes and a roosting place for several species of birds. Alina
Saldanha inspected the area on Thursday alongwith officials and the project

Sancoale panchayat to initiate action against illegal

Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai informed that
the panchayat body has taken a decision to initiate action against all illegal
scrapyards in the village. He said that several Illegal scrap yards have
mushroomed in Sancoale village and surrounding areas, posing a threat to
public health and environment. And further added that the panchayat has
already issued notices to such scrap yards recently.

We need to protect our lungs from excess dust, exhaust fumes from vehicles and most importantly the Particulate Matter-PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants in the air we breathe, especially in Vasco and areas where mining is going on and the transport routes. Prevention is better than cure.
